The annual Reel Kids Fishing Derby originally scheduled for March 8, 2013 but canceled due to rain, has been rescheduled for Friday, April 5, 2013.   The location remains at Heritage Park.

Once again, the community is invited to attend and participate in the derby which begins at 6 pm.  “Lake Florence” in Heritage Park will be alive with hungry, jumping catfish, just waiting to be reeled in by kids 18 and under (adults can fish after 8:00pm).

The event, which is free to the public and presented by Florence Parks and Recreation Department, includes camping, music, food and prizes, including a grand prize for the biggest fish caught.  In addition, the Florence Little League will have food concessions for sale.

Overnight camping is allowed for this event and tents may be set up from 1:00pm to 4:00pm on Friday.  All the fishing equipment, including rods, reels and bait are available for kids to check out on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 5:00pm.

In order to keep this event enjoyable and fun, there is no snagging or netting allowed during the weekend.
