More Programs Scheduled at the Library in March

March programs continue at the Florence Community Library, with a variety of events throughout the month!

March 8: Diana Gabaldon

Meet best-selling author Diana Gabaldon at the Florence Community Library!

Gabaldon, author of the popular “Outlander” and “Lord John” series, will stop by the Florence Community Library Friday, March 8, at 1:00 pm.  She will discuss her books and will be available to answer a limited number of audience questions.  Copies of her books will NOT be available to buy at this event, but patrons are encouraged to bring their own copies for her to sign.

Seating is limited, so advance sign-up is highly recommended.  To sign up, or for more information, please contact the library at (520) 868 – 8311.

March 12: Resume Writing and Interview Skills

Former Intel professional Barbara Plante will be returning to the library programming room on Tuesday, March 12, at 10:00 am.  She will provide guidance to help you craft your resume.  She will also discuss basic interview skills, giving hints and techniques to help you get the job you need.

Barbara will be available to answer questions from 10:00 am until Noon.  Whether you’re changing jobs, re-entering the work force after some time away, or just updating your resume to expand your options, this is an excellent opportunity to help you meet your goals.

March 18: John Wayne in Arizona

In addition to the John Wayne film series the library is presenting Thursdays at 5:30 pm, the library will also host guest speaker Gregory McNamee, who will present “Riding with the Duke: John Wayne in Arizona.”  This event will be held Monday, March 18, at 6:00 pm.

Movie icon John Wayne may have lived most of his life in Los Angeles, but he had close ties with the Grand Canyon State.  This discussion will explore the actor’s long career, with a focus on Arizona and the ways the actor invested in the state: producing films, raising cattle, and operating a game ranch.  McNamee, who has written about film and western history for publications as varied as the “Encyclopedia Brittanica” and “The Hollywood Reporter,” will be available to answer questions at the end of the talk.

“Riding with the Duke” has been sponsored by the Friends of the Florence Community Library and was made possible by the Arizona Humanities Council.

For more information about any of these programs, or to sign up, please contact the library at (520) 868-8311.
