The Florence Community Library invites you to a discussion of the long history of arguably the most simultaneously disruptive and democratizing inventions in music: the piano keyboard!

On Friday, March 22 at 5:30 pm, Dr. Guy Whatley will deliver his AZ Humanities presentation, How the Piano Keyboard Changed the World.  Whatley, harpsichordist for the Grammy-nominated True Concord and a member of the teaching faculty at ASU, will trace the history of the keyboard from ancient Greece to the modern day.  This program will look at how the keyboard has allowed music to be experienced by all societal groups – even as its pervasiveness has sometimes crushed indigenous music.  Dr. Whatley will also play examples of music from many time periods and from all over the world!

This program is made possible by AZ Humanities, and is sponsored by the Friends of the Florence Community Library.  It will be held at the Town of Florence Library and Community Center on March 22 at 5:30 pm, and is free and open to the public.
