Not many people are aware of the role Arizona played in World War II. Our small population and ideal weather attracted the attention of military leaders who targeted our state for pilot training and POW camps.

Florence Parks and Recreation, in partnership with Az Humanities will present Ghost Towns of the Second World War: Arizona’s Historic Military Sites on Tuesday, February 28th at 6:00 p.m.

The lecture, held at the Library and Community Center and part of the Arizona Speaks program, is an intriguing presentation about the WWII camps and training sites in Arizona. Presenter Erik Berg is a published magazine writer and past president of the Grand Canyon Historical Society.

This historical presentation is free. The Community Center is located at 778 N. Main Street. For more information, call Megan Cetta at (520) 868-7589.
