On Thursday, December 30, 2021, the Town of Florence released its 2021 Virtual State of the Town featuring a speech and presentation by Mayor Tara Walter. “With the New Year comes a new opportunity to reflect upon the Town’s many successful efforts and accomplishments,” Walter said.
In particular, Walter highlights the Town’s strong financial position and award for Excellence in Accounting from the Government Finance Officers Association of Arizona, success in acquiring more than $1.5 million in grant funding in 2020 and 2021, receipt of the “Best Revitalization and Redevelopment Project” from the Arizona Chapter of the American Planning Association for its “Downtown Redevelopment Area Plan Update”, Florence Police Department’s ALEAP accreditation via the Arizona Law Enforcement Accreditation Program, and the Town’s acquisition of the 200+ acre Poston Butte Preserve, which will bring new trails and recreational facilities to the Town.
Additionally, with the release of this state of the town, Walter is hoping to set the stage for a new event coming in April – a “State of Florence” breakfast which will be hosted by the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce as well as the Town and will include a variety of speakers and local business leaders who are helping to forge the Town’s future.
In conclusion, Mayor Walter remarks: “In sum, it all adds up to it being an awesome time to be in Florence. Looking on the horizon, we can see a vibrant community that we are each proud to call home. Thank you for your help in bringing this community together”.
