The Florence Community Library’s August movie presentation will focus on the rise of faith-based films. Come to the library on Saturday, August 11 at 1:00 pm for a brief discussion, followed by a FREE showing of a recent, fact-based drama.

In early and classic cinema, Biblical epics and films with heavy religious overtones were extremely popular. As with many genres, that popularity waned as the culture changed. Over the last ten years, movies featuring religious themes have become popular again, with the faith-based film moving from a minor niche genre into the mainstream.

Join us for a brief look at the history of the genre, with a look at some successful titles and a few unsuccessful ones. The presentation will be followed by a free showing of a popular and well-reviewed recent movie, based on a true story! Popcorn and water will be available free while supplies last. You are welcome to bring snacks and soft drinks to the show.
