Cathy Adam: Vice-Mayor

Born in New York City, I lived and loved the Big Apple where fire trucks routinely lit up the night and all the hustle bustle that was 24x7. We later moved just a few miles to the bucolic town of Irvington on Hudson. Just 17 miles from Yankee Stadium, I’ve enjoyed the best of the big city and small-town life. My high school graduating class was the largest to date of just 100 where everyone knew everyone, and we left the keys in our cars and doors unlocked.
My father was a professional photographer by trade, and both he and my mom were artists.
My summers were spent on the family farm in Huntington Beach, California which is one of the reasons I immediately loved Florence with our cultivated fields and dirt roads before it became notoriously built out and infamously known as OC - Orange County. We grew up harvesting asparagus, chili peppers, etc.
My grandfather and oldest uncle are well known throughout the Japanese community in Orange County for being able to keep our family together after the Japanese concentration camps, and to this day, now on our 3rd and 4th generations, we all manage our properties together as a family business.
I played piano since I was five and went to Syracuse University on a music scholarship.
Eventually I joined a Fortune 100 tech company where I became a software engineer, project manager, consultant and global product marketing manager. Thru my job, I travelled and worked with people from every part of the globe and all nationalities - absolutely fascinating and great lessons learned in listening and learning to build relationships across all nationalities, religions and cultural heritages.
After retiring I took some years off and then decided to give back whenever and wherever I could. In 2018, I became President of the Pinal County Historical Society and dedicated myself to transforming an already wonderful museum into a more modern version that meets the community where they live with the guiding principle being relevance and sustainability.
I love travel, good books, smart people and engaging conversation, preserving and passing our great history along, good food and good fun and can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.
