
Code Compliance Officer

JOB SUMMARY:
Provides technical/administrative internal and external service and support for processing building permits and inspection requests. Reviews simple building plans for code compliance, conducts research for projects under review, provides addressing for new development and maintains records.
SUPERVISION:
This position has no supervisory responsibility.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Provides information and technical assistance to customers, property owners, staff members, the public, or others:
a. regarding general building issues, applications, project reviews, and Town procedures.
b. provides customer service at the front counter, by telephone, by fax, or by mail/email; responds to questions/complaints, research problems, and initiates problem resolution. - Research project histories; review fast-tracked permits, such as tenant improvement plans and certificates of occupancy.
- Reviews landscape plans with planners and inspectors and conducts landscape inspections. Performs research on Design Review files and construction documents. Visits and inspects project sites.
- Process permits by reviewing permit applications, conducting plan reviews, tracking plans in the computer system, calculating fees, and issuing permits.
- Processes and tracks commercial projects and tenant improvements and assists with Fire Alarm/Sprinkler permits.
- Provide support to Building and Code Officials by relaying timely and accurate messages and maintaining orderly files. Accurately records information necessary for inspection requests and running permitting software reports.
- Maintains and updates the Town’s addressing policy manual; assigns new or modified addresses; sends notices to property owners and required staff and external agencies regarding managing
- Utilizes the Town’s permitting software system for building and code enforcement functions; assists with training department staff on permit system; and advises management of suggested system and software updates.
- Maintains current records of maps, files, and other documentation; maintains current standard operating procedure manual; and creates and updates department forms.
- Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable codes, reads professional literature, and attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
- Operates a personal computer, plotter, general office equipment, engineering scale, architect scale, stake, hammer, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, computerized mapping, email, Internet, or other computer programs.
Education and Experience:

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Required:
- Must have and maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License.
- Valid ICC Permit Technician Certificate or complete ICC Permit Technician Certification within six (6) months of accepting position responsibilities.

- Knowledge of Building Permitting and Mapping software is recommended.
