This year’s Fourth of July “Freedom Fest” celebration, scheduled for Saturday, July 4th, features a popular tradition in Florence: the 17th Annual Coed Mud Volleyball tournament. Competing teams of men and women splash around in water and mud at Heritage Park, battling other teams from all over Pinal County. The tournament is not only enjoyable for the participants, but spectators enjoy viewing the muddy action on the court.

There is a limit of 12 teams, so early registration is strongly encouraged. Team registration is only $45 and is due by Friday, June 26, 2015. Drop by the Parks and Recreation Department at 132 N. Bailey Street or call Ali Feliz at (520) 868-7585.

To ease congestion near the park entrance, Holiday Inn Express is offering free shuttle service from its parking lot to Heritage Park. For those seeking lodging convenience, the Holiday Inn Express is offering a special of $49.95 per room (up to two guests).

The Fourth of July activities begin at 11:00 a.m. at the new Florence Aquatic Center, located at 174 West First Street. Open swim, water games, activities and contests begin the independence celebration and last until 6:00 p.m. The fun at Heritage Park starts at 3:00 p.m. and includes Horseshoe, Corn Hole and Mud Volleyball Tournaments, bingo, and inflatables for the kids.

Visitors to the event are reminded that outside alcohol is not allowed in the park during the Fourth of July event. However, visitors may bring non-alcoholic beverages.

Freedom Fest is co-sponsored by Florence Hospital – Anthem, Garrett Motors, Country Thunder, Main Street Family Practice, McDonald’s B&D Restaurants, Salt River Project, Holiday Inn Express, Dr. Bence Florence Clinic, National Bank and Belva’s Real Estate.
