Florence, AZ – The Town of Florence is pleased to announce the hiring of Matthew Thomas as the new Chief of Police, effective May 19, 2025. Chief Thomas brings more than 31 years of law enforcement experience, including over 24 years in leadership roles.

Thomas currently serves as Chief Deputy of the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, where he plays a key role in overseeing operations, developing public safety strategies, and strengthening community partnerships. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the IACP Leadership in Police Organizations program, and the NaCo Leadership Academy. His extensive background in law enforcement leadership, community policing, and public safety strategy makes him well-suited to lead the Florence Police Department into the future.

As Police Chief, Thomas will oversee all operations of the Florence Police Department, working closely with town leadership, officers, and the community to enhance public safety and uphold the highest standards of law enforcement.
