On Monday, March 4, 2013, the Florence Town Council voted 5-2 to approve a contract with Right Away Disposal (RAD) that will provide curbside recycling services to residents and reduce the monthly costs to residents by approximately 40%.

RAD will begin providing services on Monday, July 1, 2013.  Residents will be notified in the upcoming months of the new trash schedule and when their new containers will be delivered to their homes.

The highlights of the contact include: both recycling and trash will be picked up on the same day every week, bulk trash will be picked up every month on the same day for all residents, RAD will host one Community Clean-Up Day each Spring (one is currently being scheduled for April or May), Town retains the responsibility to bill residents for sanitation service, RAD administers a holiday tree program, and annual rate increases are capped.

In addition, the Town is working to provide its residents with the ability to take their unwanted items to a local landfill or transfer station at their convenience throughout the year.  There would be no charge at the landfill or transfer station for this service.  Instead, the costs for this service would be included into the monthly fee billed to all residents.
