This year’s Freedom Fest 4th of July Celebration offers a wide range of entertainment for all ages.  Presented by the Town of Florence Parks and Recreation Department, the event includes free swimming, prizes and contests at the community pool, mud volleyball, horseshoe and cornhole tournaments, food vendors, bingo, live music, skateboarding competition, beer garden, rockwall, zorb balls, inflatables, and a waterslide.  Plus, the most spectacular fireworks show in the region.

This year’s headline entertainment is a Glendale based band, “Rhythm Edition,” known for its wide range of musical styles.  The band has performed in a variety of venues in the metropolitan Phoenix area for close to 25 years. The band takes the stage at 5:00 p.m. and plays until 8:30 p.m.

On Friday, July 4, Freedom Fest begins at 10:00 a.m. at the Florence Community Pool with music, games and drawings until 1:00 p.m.  The action shifts to Heritage Park when mud volleyball, horseshoes and bingo begin at 3:00 p.m.  (Mud volleyball, cornhole and the horseshoe tournaments require pre-registration at Parks and Recreation Department by Friday, June 27th.)   The beer garden, presented by the Pinal Mounted Posse, also opens at 3:00 p.m.  The cornhole tournament begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the skateboard competition at 7:00 p.m. Because of the presence of the beer garden, outside alcohol is not allowed in the park. However, visitors may bring non-alcoholic beverages into the park.

After a full-day and evening of activities, residents and visitors are treated to a fantastic fireworks show, beginning at around 8:30 pm.

To ease congestion near the park entrance, Holiday Inn Express is offering round-trip shuttle service from its parking lot to McFarland State Park for only $3.00 per rider.  Shuttles leave on the half hour (as determined by demand) beginning at 3:00 p.m.  The shuttle service is free for hotel guests.

Citizens are urged to stay hydrated and take other precautions against the hot sun while enjoying all the festivities.  Sunscreen and other protection against harmful rays are encouraged.

Freedom Fest is co-sponsored by SRP, ACI, Iberdrola Renewables, Holiday Inn Express, Country Thunder, McDonald’s, National Bank of Arizona and the Florence Clinic.
