Most people have not heard of Marian McQuade, but from her original idea and persistence, President Jimmy Carter signed a resolution in 1978, proclaiming National Grandparents Day on the first Sunday after Labor Day.

In recognition of this event, the Florence Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with the Dorothy Nolan Senior Center to present Grandparent’s Day: Movie Under the Stars on Friday, September 6, 2013.

All Florence citizens are welcome to attend the movie, which begins at 7:00pm at Heritage Park, but grandparents and their grandchildren are especially invited to view the entertaining film during the cooler evening hours.

There is no charge to watch the movie and representatives from the Senior Center will be on hand to provide free hot dogs and popcorn to movie-goers.

Everyone is encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to further your viewing enjoyment of this movie.

Please call (520) 868-7589 for further information.
