Florence Mayor Tara Walter read a proclamation at the Town Council meeting on October 7th, which officially declared the month of October as “Domestic Violence Awareness Month” in the town of Florence. Florence followed the lead of Governor Doug Ducey in lighting the building purple, after the Governor committed to raising awareness for Domestic Violence by lighting the State Capitol dome purple.  This is seen as a symbol of strength and hope to survivors of domestic violence.

Florence joins many neighboring cities and towns in “Lighting Arizona Purple”. Throughout the month of October, Town Hall will be purple to raise awareness of this important issue. Residents are encouraged to light their own homes purple in support of the effort.

“Domestic Violence Awareness Month is an opportunity to stand with domestic violence survivors, to celebrate the progress made in combating these crimes, and to recommit to reducing domestic violence in our community” said Mayor Walter.
