Learn about the history of roadside memorials at the Florence Community Library.  On Friday, June 14, at 5:30 pm, the Friends of the Florence Community Library will sponsor Barbara Jaquay, Ph.D., who will present her program “Descansos:  Roadside Memorials and Marking Passages!”

As early as the 1100s, people in Europe were creating roadside memorials.  The tradition was then introduced to the Americas by the Spanish conquistadors.  Dr. Jaquay, who carries degrees in both anthropology and geography, will trace the creation of roadside memorials from those earlier times to today.

This program was made possible by the Arizona Humanities Council.  To sign up, or for more information, please contact the library at (520) 868-8311.  Seating is limited, so advance sign-up is strongly recommended!
