The Town of Florence hired Peter Zick to be Florence’s next Fire Chief.  His first day on the job was Monday, May 13th.   Chief Zick is replacing Interim Fire Chief Mike Duran who served in that position since January, 2013.   Interim Chief Duran will remain employed by the Town of Florence for two weeks after Chief Zick’s first day to ensure a smooth transition in the Fire Department.

Chief Zick spent a total of 20 years with the Rural Metro Fire Department, where he was promoted through the ranks to the position of Battalion Chief.  Throughout his career, Chief Zick has held the positions of Firefighter, Engineer, Captain, Battalion Chief, and Deputy Chief.

Hired by Rural Metro in 1987, Chief Zick worked there until 2000 when he moved to Colorado.  In Colorado, he worked for two municipalities and held the position of Deputy Chief.  He relocated to Kansas in 2006 to teach at the community college level, and then returned to Arizona and Rural Metro in 2006, where he worked until 2012.

Chief Zick oversaw the opening of 2 new fire stations in San Tan Valley and developed the Rural Metro “Swat Medic” program providing paramedics to the Pinal County SWAT Team.  Chief Zick will receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Public Safety Administration from Grand Canyon University in December.

I am excited to begin the next stage of my career with the Town of Florence Fire Department,” explained Chief Zick.  The professionalism of the Florence Fire Department is evident and I look forward to building on its solid reputation and I will continue to bring top notch services to the citizens of Florence.”

Chief Zick brings the skills and knowledge needed to move the Fire Department forward,” said Town Manager Charles A. Montoya.  “I am excited that Chief Zick is joining the Florence team to advance the services provided by the Fire Department.”
