The Town of Florence Public Works Department will begin its Capital Improvement Project (CIP) (Project #T-60) along 1st Street from Main Street to SR 79, beginning January 21, 2019. This project will include the complete removal and replacement of existing asphalt pavement as well as some concrete sidewalk replacement and redesign. The project will improve storm water drainage and help keep stormwater away from residential properties. The project was approved by the Town Council on October 15, 2018 and is expected to be completed in May 2019.

The project will begin with concrete work at the west end of 1st Street at Main Street and continue east along the north side of 1st Street, toward SR 79. The project will then return west along the south side of 1st Street, completing all concrete work (including ADA-accessible sidewalk, valley gutter, curbs and ramps and vertical curb and gutter). New ADA-compliant sidewalk and vertical curb and gutter will also be installed along the north side of 1st Street from Pinal Street to Florence Street Once concrete work is complete, asphalt removal, grading and paving will begin.

Vehicle traffic on 1st Street will be restricted to local residents only during the construction period, and there will be short periods (hours) during actual paving when no vehicle traffic will be permitted, in order to allow the new asphalt to set and cool properly. The contractor will coordinate with Public Works and local residents prior to this period. The contractor will assure that local residents have access to their properties during the entire construction period. Please observe all traffic control signs and use caution when near heavy equipment and construction personnel.
