Those who have a New Year’s Resolution to learn a new sport or hobby, should register for January’s Winter Pickleball Lessons. Four weekly classes on January 9, 16, 23 and 30 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. will be offered by the recreation division of Florence Community Services. These classes are designed to improve the skill level from beginners to advanced players.

Pickleball can be described as playing tennis on a badminton-sized court. It accommodates two to four players at a time.

The classes will occur at the pickleball courts, just west of the Library and Community Center at 778 N. Main Street. There is no fee, but pre-registration is required.

Register at the Florence Library/Community Center at 778 N. Main Street, Florence Fitness Center at 133 N. Main or online at www.florenceaz.gov/parks-and-recreation. The class is open to the first 12 people who register.

Long-time pickleball instructor and tournament player, Ferd Sobota will provide instruction and direction on rules, equipment and tips on effective play and strategy.
