The Town of Florence Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 110 North Main Street shortly before 6:00pm on Tuesday, May 24, 2011. The business at that location is Michael’s General Store.

Two fire trucks from Florence Fire Department and two fire trucks from Rural Metro were on scene battling the fire. Crews were pulled from the building when signs of fire in the attic were identified and it was determined that the collapse of the roof was imminent.

The fire was contained to Michael’s General Store. No adjacent buildings or structures were damaged. Florence Fire Department and Rural Metro crews were on scene until approximately midnight.

An investigation into the cause of fire is underway. Florence Fire Department and Rural metro each have an investigator on scene evaluating the cause of the fire. No determinations of the cause of the fire have been made at this time.

Two firefighters were taken to the hospital. One firefighter was admitted for smoke inhalation and another firefighter was admitted due to exhaustion. Both firefighters were medically cleared and released from the hospital.
