The Florence Community Library would like to thank the Friends of the Library for sponsoring mystery writer Elizabeth Gunn’s visit on Wednesday, April 27. Addressing an engrossed group of readers, Gunn spoke about her two popular detective series: the Jake Hines novels, set in a fictional town in Minnesota; and the Sarah Burke novels, set in Tucson. Gunn also discussed her path from professional innkeeper to published author.

The visit included an active conversation between author and the audience. Questions ranged from Gunn’s research, particularly of proper police procedures, to the challenges of securing a literary agent. Those who attended offered many positive comments. One patron called the discussion “very interesting, almost mesmerizing”. Another was even more enthusiastic, finding the author’s personal story to be “a bit inspirational – from innkeeper to successful author. Maybe there’s hope for the rest of us!”

The Friends of the Florence Community Library will assist with the library’s Summer Reading Program from June 6 –through July 8 this year. In addition to offering assistance with the summer kids’ programs, the Friends will also sponsor one summer program for adults: a visit by Arizona author Betty Webb on Saturday, June 11. Please contact the library for details.
