Join us Saturday, April 15 at 1:00 pm for the Florence Community Library’s April movie discussion. We will turn our attention to the rise of the modern blockbuster, followed by a FREE showing of a 2016 entry in one of the most popular franchises in movie history!

Before the modern blockbuster, the film world enjoyed a period of independent, character-centric movies. The 1970s saw the emergence of several directors who quickly became acclaimed and successful. These filmmakers crafted a number of box office hits, culminating in one movie that defeated low expectations to become the biggest box office hit of all time.

Our discussion will trace the evolution of the modern blockbuster and the blockbuster franchise. We will particularly focus on the evolution of one franchise from a single movie to a worldwide phenomenon. The presentation will be followed by a free showing of a critically acclaimed blockbuster from 2016. Popcorn and water will be available free while supplies last. Patrons are also welcome to bring snacks and soft drinks to the show!
