From the Desk of the Mayor

The end of March is upon us and that means a few things are going on in Florence. The Arizona Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is hosting its annual bike ride on March 26th and 27th, the Country Thunder Music Festival begins on April 7th, and it’s the time of the year when we say goodbye to our winter visitors as they travel back to the northern states.

The past few weeks have been very busy. I attended the Topping Off ceremony at the Florence Hospital at Anthem construction site. Anyone who has driven by that area lately knows that the construction is moving along very quickly. It is nice to see the work well underway, knowing we will soon have another hospital in our community providing an increased number of medical services to our residents.

Everything I am hearing about Florence Community Healthcare (Adamsville hospital) has been very positive too. Unfortunately, I have had a few friends who have become ill, but the treatment they received from Florence Community Healthcare was top-notch. We are lucky to have them in the community.

The Census numbers for Florence and the area were recently released. These numbers are so critical because they determine the amount of funding the Town receives. We were hoping to attain a total population of 30,000 (with the prison population) and realize an increase in our State Shared Revenues, but instead we learned that Florence’s population is at 25,536. While we didn’t see the numbers we would have liked to see, I am still happy to see that our funding will remain generally at the same funding levels as previous years. Another negative fiscal impact to the Town would have been very difficult to swallow.

I hope everyone has a chance to get outside and enjoy the Spring weather. It is beautiful this time of the year with all the flowers and desert flora blossoming back to life. I wish you all a wonderful April!

Sincerely,

Vicki Kilvinger, Mayor

Town of Florence
