Florence residents can get a taste of the “Old West” when riders reenacting the Pony Express come to town. From 1860 to 1861, Pony Express riders delivered mail from Missouri to California on horseback. These young men faced a litany of hazards and challenges during their 2,000 mile journeys.

Fast-forwarding to 2016, on Saturday, November 5th, volunteer riders from the Gilbert Days Pony Express will gallop into Florence, ride down Main Street and stop at Town Hall, 775 N. Main Street at approximately noon. Residents can visit with the riders and bring outgoing mail to receive the Pony Express post mark.

The event is presented by the Gilbert Promotional Corporation and is a vehicle to inform and invite Florence residents to the annual Gilbert Days Rodeo Celebration held November 20 – 22, 2016.
