The Florence Community Library would like to thank the Friends of the Library for sponsoring the program, “Armed with our Language, We Went to War: The Navajo Code Talkers”. This presentation was made possible by the Arizona Humanities Council, and was held at the library on Thursday, November 17, at 6:00pm.

A full house greeted presenter Laura Tohe, making this the most attended adult-targeted program to date. The audience responded with enthusiasm as Tohe discussed the history of the Navajo Code Talkers. Mixing historical photographs with personal family pictures, she traced her subject from the start of the war to the Code Talkers’ eventual public recognition.

The program was very well-received, with several library patrons feeling that “history is important” and that it is “very important to understand our past.” Many audience members particularly appreciated the time Tohe took to answer questions, which led to a “valuable exchange of information”.
