Florence Parks and Recreation is offering a Women’s Beginning Self-Defense Class designed for those who have little or no experience in verbal or physical self-defense.

Participants will learn that in a self-defense situation, avoidance is the first priority and escape is the second priority. If either priority is not possible, then simple quick and easy to execute physical skills are needed. Participants will learn simple techniques against: strikes, grabs, holds, bear hugs, front and rear chokes.

The one-day class is on Saturday, September 3rd at the Florence Library and Community Center 778 N. Main Street from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Instructor Pete Rodriquez is an internationally certified 5th Degree Black Belt holder and certified Self-Defense Instructor. Mr. Rodriquez has taught self-defense classes for employees with the Department of Corrections.

The fee is $35.00 per participant. Multiple family discounts are available; $25.00 for the second family member and $20.00 for each family of three or more.

Register at the Florence Library & Community Center, Town of Florence Fitness Center at 133 N. Main Street or online at www.florenceaz.gov/parks.
